Join Jennifer to learn her favourite way of knitting socks: from the toe up on two circular needles! We’ll start with Judy’s Magic Cast On for a seamless toe, continue up the foot and turn a heel-flap heel, knit up the leg to our desired length and then finish with Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off.
-
Session 1: Learn the basics of knitting in the round with two circular needles and cast on the toe of the sock.
Homework: Finish knitting the sock in the round up to the ankle, then knit the heel flap on one needle. -
Session 2: Turn the heel using short rows, pick up stitches around the heel flap and join to knit in the round.
Homework: Continue knitting in the round (including final ribbing) until sock leg is desired length. - Session 3: Catch up, questions and bind off using stretchy bind off.
Participants must already be comfortable with knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing and basic cast on and bind off techniques. There will be approximately four to five hours of knitting ‘homework’ required between each session.
Course fee includes detailed instructions and handouts on all the various techniques. Students will need to bring two 2.5 mm circular needles (60 or 80 cm cord) and 100 g of 4-ply yarn. Yarn and needles may be purchased in the shop at a 10% discount for course participants. Please note that we only sell natural fibres so those wishing to use standard nylon-containing sock yarns will need to bring their own.
A minimum of three and a maximum of six students for this class. If fewer than three register, their fees will be refunded.
